I am a licensed Navy Physician who has to serve the NAVY until January 09. I really want to do Ophthalmology after my Active Duty Obligation is done. I am concerned about having to wait 6 months after Jan 09 to start my PGY-2 year. Is it possible to star a PGY-2 year in January 09? Can this be done outside the match since I am a Licensed Physician? Any input will be appreciated.

As far as i know, the only way to do that is if spots open up. check out sfmatch.org for pgy2 vacancies. Since its early match and you apply a year ahead, even the vacancies for PGY2 starting july 2007 will be posted a year in advance- like right now unless someone drops out.
But don't know much about military spots/DO spots etc. 😛

OK! couple of problems here. First, my reply is posted twice, and secondly i replied thinking you are done with your navy next january (january 07). Sorry for the confusion!
Hope sdn gets fixed.
