For those match gurus out there I have a question. Lets say I have as my number one choice program A, an advanced program. Then as my supplemental list - internship #1 (same city as program A), internship #2 (same city as program A), and then nothing else following. Can I set up the algorithm to only chose my number one anesthesia program if I only can get the same city for my intern year. I would rather fall to my number 2 or 3 on the primary list (which are categorical positions) if I fail to match in one of my two internships for my number one. It looks as though the way the program is set up is to first find my match in the primary list and then go to the supplemtal list to search for a possible intern program at any cost to matching or not. I hope you can follow all this trash.
For those who ask why I would want to do this and handicap my number one choice (by not putting all the Transitional Year programs I interviewed at which was 5); those with families can sympathize I'm sure (cost of moving, wifes employment, kid's schooling etc). I'm sure I could try to solve this problem by visiting the NRMP and decipher their Da vinci Code, but last time I attempted that, it made my nose bleed. 😀 Please don't flame me if the answer is obvious.
Sorry about the other 2 posts , my cpu had a seizure as was locked in for some reason.
