For Dental Students post some of your schools MATCH Results to help the predentals out.

Columbia:
12 OMFS
8 ORTHO
3 ENDO
+More that I havent heard

Go Columbia SDOS/CDM!!!

Columbia:
12 OMFS

WOW! thats just crazy.. columbia def looks A LOT better now! 😍

what about: # matched/# applied?

that's the meaningful number

with around 75 seniors graduating and 12 going into OMFS..you do the math!
I heard 14 applied.

any info from the other schools? 🙂

from the CU email:

"Congratulations to the CLASS OF 2006 on a superb Match!!! As we know, of the 4500 national senior dental students about 1 in 3-4 attains any GPR/AEGD/specialty training program annually. Only about 1 in 5 attains a specialty training position. In our relatively small senior class we have (this will change a bit over the next 2 weeks):

Class of 06
SUMMARY as of 1/30/06

OMFS 11
ORTHO 8
PED. DENT 4
PERIO 1
PROSTH. 4
ENDO 3
GPR 22
AEGD 17
UNIFORMED SVCS. 5*
PRIVATE PRACTICE 4
NHSC 1
Withdrew/NON-MATCH 8

* Some in specialty

We typically have about a dozen initial non-matches, a bit
lower this year;. All or most of the WD/Non
Match will yet be placed; we have had calls from a large number of GPR/AEGD programs seeking to fill spots! Again congratulations to all for their hard work and the foresight to seek a GPR/AEGD/specialty program. Extraordinary results and a credit to us all!"

UCLA had 17/21 match ortho, which is unheard of.
Only 1 applied to OMS this year but he matched.
A bunch matched pedo and perio.
Endo did well too. Shoot, they all did great. 2006 is an outstanding class.

Since ucla is pass/no pass, does matching have to do soley with board 1 performance...?

I am just trying to figure out why 17 matched in ortho and 4 didn't... where do they draw the line...?

thanks.

Those are unbelievable match results. I guarantee you won't find numbers like that anywhere else. Not everyone can get into ortho.

From my friends on the interview trail, I heard that the number who applied to ortho from UCLA was in the 30's because of all the previous year grads who applied this year.

Oh, I know that, trust me! I was just wondering if matching is all based on board scores...?

Is it cause of UCLA that UCSF has pretty bad match numbers this last year?

I don't think it affected UCSF. Actually, I think we had pretty good match numbers this year (from another post):

OMFS: 5/5 (the 6th person was from the class of 2005)
Perio: 1/1
Endo: 1/1
Ortho: 5/6
Pedo: 13/16 (not 100% sure on this figure...)
GPR/AEGD: Too many to count. But I believe everyone who applied matched somewhere, MOST at their #1 choice

All in all, I think we did pretty well 🙂

Yea they aren't bad. I was just surprised there weren't more applicants.
