Hi, I will be starting my anesthesia residency in next July. I am currently sitting out for one year because I already completed my internship. I am looking for a job to keep myself busy and financially support myself, but it's not easy to find it. I probably won't get my state license until Feb. so I can't moonlight at this point. I thought about doing PGY2 Prelim but it's already kind of late in a year, and I can't find a place. I wouldn't mind doing a research as long as I can get paid. And I wouldn't mind even if it's a non-clinical job as long as I can get paid descent salary, not like hourly minimum wage.

Any suggestion?

Hi Koshers,

Start with the PD at your program. They are a great resource for names and contacts for research gigs that come up. Also, they know if there are any openings in the program, as residents sometimes quit or leave for whatever reason. You could possibly start off-cycle and enjoy the remaining few months of freedom you have.

Failing that, ask some of the current residents for advice. Chances are at least a handful of them went through something similar prior to starting anesthesia.

Good luck!
