Congrats everyone! Despite my message saying "you've matched," I'm still paranoid that somehow it was a mistake. If my primary rank order list consisted of derm programs with their supplemental lists, followed by prelim programs in case I didn't match into derm, my message wouldn't have said "you've matched" if I just matched into prelim from my primary list right????

BTW, if you only matched into a 1 year position on your primary rank list, your email would say that. Your supplemental lists aren't used unless you match into dermatology. If you got an email saying "congratulations you have matched," you are fully matched!

according to the regional match statistics, 2 PGY-1 positions (both in northeastern region) and 5 PGY-2 positions (4 in southern and 1 in northeastern region) in derm went unfilled this year.
Congratulations to everyone who matched! I remember how relieved I felt last year when I got my email - one of the best days of my life. Enjoy the next few months, because intern year comes at you fast!
Thats amazing. The Southern U.S. programs are by and large very competitive (and for derm, thats saying something) and usually fill completely. I remember Alabama had one open spot a few years back, but even that was an anomaly.

For those of you who found out you matched on Monday . . . I guess you either did not have a back up specialty at all (which is certainly normal not to) and did not list any prelim programs (for instance, at a large academic institution or something) after your derm programs so that you'd at least have an intern year if you didn't match in derm? I only ask, because I'm wondering if there's any way to know you matched for DERM on that monday if you just get an email saying "you matched." Does it say "you matched PGY-1 and PGY-2" or something? Or could you potentially get an email that says "you matched" and it turns out it was at the prelim program you listed at the bottom as a very last resort, but you don't find it out until match day?
It will say, "you matched" if you matched to both. If you matched to a prelim only (i.e. after listing your advanced programs with linked prelims), then it will say, "you matched to a preliminary program." Same type of thing for matching to an advanced but not a prelim.
