I need some advice. My BF just matched into a great program in NYC for EM and I'm super happy for him. I'm currently a third year DO medical student and he is a fourth year MD student. I want to be able to try to land in NYC in the future; my dad trained for residency in NYC as well.
I'll be honest, I'm not an amazing applicant. Didn't do well on Step 1 (below average). I'm currently studying for Step 2 and hope I crush it. I'm planning to apply broadly for IM and OB/GYN programs. I know connections matter and I thought I would be able to schedule some audition rotations in the NYC area but with COVID-19, that is looking bleak. Does anyone have any advice on how to navigate this during residency interviews? Is it bad to bring up a boyfriend or significant other on a personal statement? Can I reach out to programs to potentially get an interview if I'm interested in being in NYC in general? Has anyone navigated this before?
Thanks for all your help and please stay safe.
