Matching stats and ECs to school list

I would appreciate the forums opinion on my list of schools. I am East Asian from CA

cGPA: 3.67 (upward trend, ended freshman year with a 2.84, yikes!)
sGPA: 3.82
MCAT V:10 P:13 B:13 O

ECs
Organic Chem tutor 2.5 years
Molec Neurobio Research 2.5 years, one presentation, publication (in undergrad journal though)
Excellence in Research, awarded by undergrad
Clinical Volunteer, Private ophthalmology(how is this viewed?) practice, 2.5 years
started as an econ major, intern at metal manufacturing plant during first year

Your list a bit top-heavy, but I think you'll be fine. Sounds like you actually stand a pretty good shot at CA schools. Your research will give you a good step up in this application process, your MCAT is great, and your gpa is pretty good too. I don't think you need to add more schools, but you could if you are losing sleep.

The only obvious hole I see in your app is what appears to be a lack of community service work. If you don't have any, I'd definitely get involved in something you're interested in now. Pick an organization or issue you feel strongly about. It doesn't have to be volunteering in an emergency department. If you can't come up with something specific to your interests, see if there are any free health care clinics near you that you can help out at. While not all med schools look for community service, many will. I'm not sure how much of a factor it is at UCs though, and your research may fill the gap for some schools that don't have a strong community service mission.
