Hello everyone!!

thank you!! to everyone who posts here I find this forum extremely helpful ,it has help me study for all my sciences bio/GC/OC. for the math section though i'm really worried. Eventhough everyone keeps on saying it's 5th grade math, I will like to admitt i'm a math dummy!!!. If anyone has any advice on how to prepare for the math section for someone like me who is mathematically challenged please let me know, I find the kaplan stuff for math HARD!!! , I'm okay in everything else including PAT, but in the math section I keep getting really low scores for practice tests. Maybe someone can recommend a study guide that is easy to follow for someone like me. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!😀 😀 😀 😀

Bump! I could use a study guide or just advice from those of ya'll that aren't good at math but studied hard and did well on the actual DAT. Like what you did to prepare and the materials you used. I'm really worried about this section as well!! Thanks!

DAT destroyer has a QR section in it.

Well, Thats true that DAT destroyer have QR but the QR in it, is pretty easy. The QR section of Kaplan is really good but dont worry about timing on the subject tests because some only has word problems while others only have workout problems.

I believe math doesn't come as easy to some as it does to others. I just scored a 12! on it and half of it was just guessing, toward the end I was running out of time. 😱 Freaked out and just picked "c's" 😀 The word problems take to long in reading then picking out if it's an averaging, age, work ... etc.

I know I have to go over the concepts again and get the formulas down. I believe with math it's just practice, practice and don't let go! I live on STM ( short memory) it's the age thing. 🙁

I know math is practice, I"m just worried about the permutations and probabilities and world problems in generals I think the algebra I might do okay on......thank you guys for your support:laugh:

danbarr,

The other day you were looking for help with a few math problems. Out of curiosity, where were those questions from? I'm always looking for more resources.

REH.

the kaplan review course subject tests, i'm mathematically challenged so i was having a really hard time understanding

FYI, the math is MUCH more difficult than the 5th grade level. think trig, prob, permutation --> SAT style math ....except you must work quicker than on the SAT!

best of luck,
jb!🙂

just wanted to share with u guys a math strategy that may or may not for work you.
it has worked for me in the past and im sure others have prolly done this.
basically, since ur short on time, when u see the problem, u have like 10 seconds to look at it and read it, and know whether u have a plan of attack or not. if you don't have a plan of attack in the next 5-10 seconds, MARK it, and move on. make sure u GET ALL THE WAY to number 40 and you have all the EASY ones finished. 3-4 easy questions towards the end can be the difference. this is just because i really suck bad at math, so i just skim through and do all the easy ones, and then go back to all the ones i had marked.

just a strategy! hope that helps.

I actually had a strategy on this. On the practice tests I scored very well, the actual DAT not so well.
What i did:
Skip over all the word problems (just put B and mark em), then i would do all the straight up algebra ones and then go back to the word problems and work em out... this helped me score between 18-22 on the kaplan practice test.

On the actual DAT, it didnt work! reason: they were all word problems!!

OMG I did the same thing!! I didn't pick all C's, but I ended up guessing 3/4 way through the QR and got 12, I was very sad...I'm a ****** at math... 🙁

I used Barrons new SAT II Math Workbook. I found it very helpful. I think its the best prep you can do, just make sure you do many many practice tests to get your timing down.

omg are u serious?! all word problems?! ahhhh! i so didn't wanna hear that....😕😱😡....
i was thinking that the QR would consist of more variety👎idea:

Hirabhen, dont worry, just practice kaplan and DAT destroyer and you should be fine!

lol lonelyyyyy i'ma kick ur behind when i c u....hahaha....damn u stay up late too...anxiety aye?

I took Clac 2 right before I took the exam and while none of the material was of calc 2 difficulty it still helped me immensely having to recall a lot of the algebra and math tricks that I should have already known to solve the probelms.
