Hey guys. Quick questions...Kaplan's QR (word problems) seem to pretty long and a big time constraint. Is the read deal the same way (full of big word problems)??? How close is the Top score to the actual DAT. Thanks for all your help.

PS: People say to add couple of points to the Top Score avg....any truth to this rumor?

The QR section on the actual DAT was a LOT easier than Kaplan's or Topscore's QR sections. The problems are shorter/simpler on the actual DAT and you won't have to worry too much about time constraints. G'luck.

Thanks a lot Superman.

nice that grade is gonna be the only thing that keeps my AA average up. i have been getting 24's on kaplan tests. so i should be expecting above that for the real thing?

I thought DAT's math was a joke to me. But guess what, I RAN OUT of time. So be prepared. Don't hold your expectation too high. It hurts more when you fall.

So you telling me its nothing like kaplan stuff. I think that stuff is relatively easy where as other don't, so i don't know what to think.

No dude, I just took it today. Top score was a better help than Kaplan. But don't all together discount Kaplan. The word problems are similar but less the complexity. The algebra in Kaplan was a good help also. Good luck. The funny thing is that I thought I got a 20+ when I finished, but i got a 17. So that sucked.

My advice was that I did the easy ones first. Didn't cherry pick, but if I thought something would be hard, I guessed, marked it, and came back to it at the end.

It's similar to Kaplan and Topscore. The material itself is easy, but how long it takes you can be a problem. I expected to score in high 20 but ended with a 20 which is not too bad. But if I had taken this portion more seriously while preparing, I would have been able to nail it with a much higher score.

I didn't think it was necessary to start a new thread, but why is it that Topscore has several interest (compound & simple) problems in it but it is not covered in Kaplan. It's not in the big book and it also isn't listed as one of the topics printed by the ADA.

What gives??

Oh my god I just tried doing one of the Kaplan Subject Tests (the one with 23 word problems in 30 minutes) and I can say I almost started to cry. Is it me or am I going to die.

okay...

i just took the real DAT a few days ago...and the math was ass-easy...i think the real thing is much closer to kaplan than it is to topscore....topscore was just really difficult i thought...i only scored low 20s on topscore...but got a 28 on the real one...so don't be deceived by topscore...

a lot of the stuff on the real dat is just algebra..if you can do algebra, you should be fine...there's not that many geometry problems..which i hate...

Does anyone know if the cd that comes with the Kaplan book has explanations to it's questions? I know Top score doesn't and I'm not ready to take the whole test if I can't get the explanations.

I absolutely cannot stand the math section. It is the last 45 minutes of the test and honestly I just read the questions and guess on a lot of them. I don't even try to work out some of the problems. Am I the only one that feels this way?

both kaplan and topscore have solutions and explanations, so i don't know what you're talking about.

you just need to go review the test questions again, and the solutions pop up on the side

as for feeling tired on the math, i actually don't think this exam is that mentally debilitating, so i didn't feel especially exhausted at any point of the exam...

while taking it, i intended on taking the full 15 minute break..but 10 mins into the break, i started to feel sleepy lol...so i was thinking that isn't good..so i only took a 10 minute break...
