What is the largest number from a series of four consecutive negative integers where the sum of the two smallest integers is -17?



A. -14
B. -12
C. -10
D. -8
E. -6

I always see these types of problems.. is there a certain formula that works best on these problems.. thanks.. and Ecoli thanks for solving the other one..

well if they're all consecutive, the two smallest numbers must be consecutive too. so that's -9 and -8. if these are the two smallest of four, the other two are -7 and and -6.

so the answer is -6.

ignor negative integer, deal with the problem as they are postive integers:

Let x = The First Consecutive Number
x+1 = the second
x+2 = the third
x+3 = the fourth

it says sum of the samllest consecutive numbers is -17

so x+x+1= -17 therfore x= -9 ( the first integer number)

the smallest integer number( the fourth one) after you plug the x is -6
