Answer is A

Multiply y by (x-3), the equation becomes xy - 3y = x+2, the sub each side by x and add 3y to both sides making it xy - x = 3y + 2, factor out x and you get x(y-1)=3y+2, then divide both sides by (y-1) and you've got the answer. Hope this helped!

y=(x+2)/(x-3)
y(x-3) = (x+2)
xy - 3y = x + 2
xy - x = 3y + 2
x(y-1) = 3y+2

x = (3y+2)/(y-1) which is A

On the practice dat from ADA there is a math question that I haven't been able to figure out. Anyone know how to solve for this one? It's #32.

The problem states:

if y=(x+2)/(x-3), then which of the following represents x?

A. (3y+2)/(y-1)
B. (3y+2)/👍
C. (3y-2)/(y+1)
D. (5y)/(y+1)
E. (3y-2)/(y-1)

For those who haven't taken it yet, you can get it here: http://www.ada.org/prof/ed/testing/dat/dat_candidate_sampletest.pdf

Thanks!

Now I'm even more confused. The answer key said that it was E. Thanks for everyone who responded though!

hehe, I think you might have looked at the wrong answer. For 32 the answer key is A, 33 however is E. It's those dang angle rankings, they make you CROSS EYED!!!
