Hey Guys...I have a few more math questions...please help.

1. If y=x+2/x-3 what is x? The answer is (3y+2)/(y-1).
I keep getting the wrong answer for some reason and don't know where my mistake is?

2. A painting which is 4 feet wide and 5 feet long is surrounded by a rectangular frame 6 inches wide. What percent of the area of the picture and the frame is occupied by the frame?

Answer: 33 1/3

3. If the side length of a square is increased by 50% the area increase by what percent?

Answer: 75

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

😍

1. y=(x+2)/(x-3)
y(x-3)=x+2
yx-3y=x+2, then bring all terms with x to the left side
yx-x =3y+2
x(y-1)=3y+2
x =(3y+2)/(y-1)

2. you know the area of the picture is 4*5=20
and, the area of the whole thing incl the frame is (4+2(0.5))(5+2(0.5)=30
[be careful with the units! 12inches=1foot]
so the area of frame only is 30-20=10
thus, %=(10/30)*100=33.3%

3. are you sure it's 75%? i've kept on getting 125%..
original square area=z^2=z^2
increased area=(z+0.5z)^2=2.25z^2
(2.25z^2)-(z^2)=1.25z^2
so i was thinking it'd be 125% but i'm not quite sure on this though.. 😕

Think about it
if you have a square with each side 2 per say, than the area will be (2)^2=4.
Now, if you have this same square increased 50%, this would mean that the square sides increased .50 or 3. Now calculate new area (3)^2=9. The increase = 9-4 = 5. Know evaluate the percent increase 5/4 (100) = 125%. And I am pretty sure about this answer. 😉
