No. Most require a just a year of math (up to Pre-Cal or Trig). Go have fun registering for something other than Calculus!

depends, if you like math go for it, otherwise it isn't required for courses for the most part. I chose to major in it because math just kind of makes sense, others hate it. I won't ever use it, but i enjoyed it in college.

Hi AshCash-

No, you don't need one year of calc, but if you are transferring from a jc to a 4 year college, they usually require you to take a year of calc, especially for bio majors. Check the catalogue at your school. I would recomend you take statistics, as some dental schools list it as a recommended course. Take stats for sure.

Hey Ashcash, perfect timing on this question, I was wondering the same thing. I have done a little research on different dental school websites and I have come to the conclusion that I don't need calc for dental school. I am a sophomore at a community college and was in their pre-med associate of science degree, which required calc. I just finished up with college algebra and I can't handle anymore math...just not my gig. I spoke with an advisor at the four year that I am going to transfer too and she said that a biology major requires calc...therefore I am simply going to major with my old minor, psychology. I will hopefully be able to take the required science classes as some electives for psych. I will just have to see when I get there.

I had asked a similar question a while ago....here is that thread...

I hope this helps...I know the feeling of not wanting to screw anything up in undergrad and making sure we are as prepared as possible for the future.

Good luck!

Ah calculus...I love calculus. Calculus makes total sense. I advise you to take it, its quite rewarding solving those volume of sphere problems and areas under curves...could prove quite useful in running a dental practice!
Okay, all fun aside, I did really enjoy calculus...its a great subject. If you like math, go for it and take calc 1 and 2, but 3 will probably just be a waste, as I'm beggining to discover. I'm signed up for it next semester but will probably drop it and take microbio. Good luck.

I don't know. Most of the schools that I applied to highly recommend math at the level of Calculus or Statistics.

I pulled up the requirements for the pre-dental program at the 4 year school that I am going to transfer too, which was approved by CU dental school and there is nothing about calc on there. Actually, no math is mentioned. It is understood that you must take college algebra for the chemistry classes though. The advisor at the 4 year also said that the ochem's don't require anything over college algebra.

Double check before you make any decisions...do a little research on the schools that you think you may apply to. On their website it may list requirements...or call them up and ask.
