the greater of two numbers is one more than twice the smaller. three times the greater exceeds five times the smaller by 10. find the numbers

The following is giving from the first sentence:
smaller = x
greater = 2x+1

Then the " three times the greater exceeds five times the smaller by 10"
3(2x+1) = 5x+10

just solve for x and you get x=7
