Hey guys!

I have a quick question about pre-med math requirements: I'm currently about to finish my sophomore year of college, along with my pre-med requirements. However, my only math classes taken so far were taken my senior year of high school: a Multivariable Calculus class through my local SUNY, and a Linear Algebra class taken through that same SUNY. I received college credit for both classes, as well as an official SUNY transcript.

Will these two math classes count for the math requirement at med schools? I'm planning on taking Intro Stats next fall, but that's about it as far as math courses at the actual college I attend now. Would it be advisable to take a calculus class at my current college (it's a LAC with a very rigorous math department that I'm frankly quite scared of 😳). I know I need to send in every college transcript I've ever received to med schools, but will my SUNY math credits count as having properly taken math to meet med school requirements?

Thanks a lot guys, sorry if this question has been asked before.

I wouldn't think you need to take a calc class if you've already done MVC. (Presumably they wouldn't have let you take college-level MVC if you didn't already have the fundamentals down, even if it was a high school class.) Calculus isn't even a requirement in the strict sense, though some schools may recommend it. Pick up stats and probability and you're good to go.

If you received college credit for 2 college math courses, you should be fine applying to schools. Also, the schools requiring specific math courses usually recommend through Calc II or III (Harvard and Hopkins). You will need transcripts from SUNY when you apply, though.

yea you may be okay with the credits you have already earned but definitely look through the MSAR for the schools that you intend on applying to to be sure. since you are almost a junior you should prob already be making you list of possible schools to apply to so you can look at all the schools on your list.
