Can someone help me with the solution for this? I got 8.. but apparently it's wrong.

they're asking for the number of gallons contained in the last pail, not the number of pails used. by inspection of the graph, it's linear so every pail is removing about the same x gallons of water. 8 pails were used to remove 2 and 2/3 gallons of water = 8/3 gallons of water. 8/3 gallons of water / 8 pails = 1/3 gallons of water removed per pail = x. hopefully that's correct. (that means 3 pails = 1 gallon of water, and when you look at the graph on y axis, 4 gallons are left)

5 - 7/3 = 15/3 - 7/3
= 8/3
So 8/3 gallons were removed in total. Dividing this by 8, which is the number of times the pail was used, you get x=1/3.

P.S. are you retaking the DAT?
