MATH:replacable vs. unreplacable permutation

How many 3 letter license plates can be formed from the letters A,B,C,D,E,F if each letter is to be used only once?

this is like 6 people competing for 3 diff places thus permutation.

But this is unreplacable situation.

what happen if it is replacable so that plate can be AAA or ABB...etc?
how would you solve it?

Replaceable is 6 * 6 * 6 = 216.
