Math Requirement Dilemma!

Hello all, Good morning.

I have a slight dilemma. I have taken 1 semester of math during undergrad (pre-calculus). One of the colleges that I am applying to requires at least two semesters of college level math. I called the school a few days ago to ask about this, and they said I was required to take another math course before I matriculated, meaning I could take it any time this gap year. So, I plan to take a math course at the community college this fall.

My problem is, how do I indicate that I will in fact be taking another math course since it is not in my course work on my primary application? Do I send them an email when I take the course, or should I wait until I am registered to take it, add it to my course work without a grade, and THEN send off my primaries? I've tried calling the school but they haven't answered. I really don't want to postpone my primaries any longer. What is my next plan of action?

Someone who has gone through this may have a better answer, but it is my understanding that this is the kind of thing you send in an update letter, usually post interview.

Though Math is a requirement, I would argue that it is the least compelling of all of the pre-req's (it is not needed for the MCAT). So, all they care about is that you take it/have time to take it.

I wouldn't stress about it until you start doing secondaries. Some secondaries ask if you are planning on taking classes for the next year, and you can indicate your math classes then.

If you haven't submitted your primaries then you just list it under "current/future" coursework with the appropriate markings. (Spring 2010-2011, etc.) If you've already sent out your primaries, then I'm no help.

I could do that, but then I'd have to wait until I'm all registered for the class, which wouldn't be soon. This sucks.

You should have listed it as a future take in your primary. Even if you end up taking a totally different course at a different school to fulfill the requirement, they will not care, as long as it is a semester of math. If you have already submitted your primary without listing it, they will ask you about it when you are accepted or waitlisted. At least this was my experience. Either way, not having the class will not affect your chances at admissions, only your eligibility to matriculate.

It still fulfilled the requirement and they did not think anything of it. Your fine, just provide some indication in your primary that you intend to meet the requirment by taking a future math course.

I'll do this. I just called the community college back home and they offer Calculus for me to take in the fall. I'll list this in my primary application. Thanks a lot!
