It sounds like there are a lot of rate questions according to everyone. But I am not sure I know what you are talking about. What exactly are rate problems? Because I don't remember ever doing any and I have taken Calc 1 & 2...so can someone elaborate more on the rate problems? Thanks!!

I didn't take the June PCAT exam but I did recently retake Calculus. Calculus Rate Problems involves finding the rate at which a certain variable changes with time.

For example, If I wanted to find the rate of change of Area (A) of a circle = pi*R^2. I would take the derivative of Area(A) of circle and find dA/dt = A'(t) = 2*pi*R

Hope that helps a little

no they don't have a lot of cal rate problems, those take forever to do, simple rate problems can be.

If there person A build a house at rate of 3hour per house , person B build house rate at 7 hour per house. What is the time for them building together to build 3/4 of a house? Problems like those, I don't remember seeing calculus rate problems, i took it in january.

Farcus, would the following be correct way to solve the rate problem you presented:

(7 + 3) / 2 = 5 hours working together to build 1 house

5 * (3/4) = 3.75 hours

Answer: It would take 3.75 hours or 3 hours and 45 minutes for person A and B working together to complete building 3/4 of the house

(3 * 7)/(3+7)= 2.1 per 1 house
2.1 * 3/4 = 1.575 hours.

The way to do these is (a * b)/(a+b) always work for rate problems like these. There are a few others.

Whos says Kaplan courses aren't worth the money 😀, and yes I'm almost 70% sure I saw 1 problem like this on math and a few other rate problems.

yes, but can you tell me it wouldn't be on the next one? and can't deny that there aren't a lot of rate related problems on the math section on PCAT.

The math section is you versus your ego.

No one is saying you cant solve the problem in front of you - but how long will it take you to do it?

If you look at a problem and cant solve it in a minute - move on. You WILL run out of time trying to be a hero and get a 100% on the math section.
