In a recent survey, 80 percent of the people polled were registered voters and 75 percent of the registered voters voted in the last election. What fraction of all those surveyed were registered voters who did not vote in the last election?

How do you figure this out?

answer is 1/5

make up a number.

let's say there are 100 people.
80% were registered voters, which means 80 of the 100 people were registered to vote.
75% of those 80 (or 60 people) voted.
therefore

20 people that were registered did NOT vote (80 registered, 60 voted, thus 20 did not vote).

thus,

20/100 = 1/5
