Hi,
Is it correct to say that the maxillary canine is the only tooth that has a linguogingival groove? I don't even see the groove on my model teeth.
Thanks.

maxilary canine has linguogingical groove , maxillary lateral has lingual groove in its distal and maxillary premolar has mesial developmental groove .
got one doubt in kaplan book it says that lingual cusp of first premolar occuds the mesial margin ridge of mandibular second prmolar and the distal marginal ridge of mandibular first premolar and similar for the second maxillary premolar mmr of molar and distal m ridge of second premolar but in 2004 decs it says that it occluds the dstal triangular fossa ,also the mandibular first premolars and second prmolars buccal cusps ocllusion differs in decs and kaplan, so confused what is correct can any one tell what is the correct one and what does the latest decs state and other than decs kaplan and wheelers what oter book do we have to refer

I thought so too. I'm quite frustrated to have found typos/errors and discrepancies here and there. Thanks.

Just study well and in case of doubt, refer the books.Don't mug it just like that.
Books are correct...while there can be error in decks/kaplan.
Hope that helps.

I am sitting here reading from my handy-dandy Concise Dental Anatomy and Morphology book and I see this...

The Lingual Aspect of the Max. Permanent Canine.
"The cingulum and incisal half of the lingual surface are on rare occasions seperated by a linguogingival groove, which in some cases may contain a lingual pit near its center. When present, the groove is normally quite shallow. The lingual pit may be present, even when the groove is absent. Nevertheless, the presence of a groove or pit is not very common"

So.... there MAY be one present... Just becuase you have never seen one does not mean they are not out there.
