During my residency interviews this year several faculty mentioned that 280 is a perfect score on the USMLE. I had never heard that there was a "perfect" score. It seems it is always based on the average and standard deviation. Is 280 a perfect score or does the highest score always vary? Anyone have any info?

I have no answers for your specific questions, however, I've never seen anyone with a score 280. The highest score I heard of was 270+ for Step 2 and 260+ for Step 1.

I've heard of a 280+ on step 2. This was from the dean at my school who said he's seen 3 in his time at my school, which has been about 30 years. I got close to that but not above 280
