May 15th Waitlist Countdown Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Do you think people get phone calls on May 15th or does it take a couple days for admins to decide who they are going to take off?

April 30th was the date that MD/PhD applicants could only hold one acceptance. Based on my experience from the one school I am waitlisted at, it takes a couple of days to tally all of the individuals who declined their acceptance offer.

im guessing there will be a lot of movement from the case western waitlist this week, since the deadline to make a decision is today.

good luck :luck:

Hello all fellow waitlisters,
I am waitlisted at my top choice, I already sent two letters of interest, the last one being like around 2 months ago. do you guys think I should send another one before may 15th?

Yeah, I would send another update right about now reiterating your interest and activities. Although, I just sent my fourth update and this time I didn't receive an email response even though my supplemental app was updated. Perhaps I've crossed over into annoying territory?

Try to find real things to update with:
Spring grades if still applicable
Pubs
Posters
Additional letters
Other ****

Need to keep this thread alive. Less than one week and May 15th will finally be here. Good luck everyone!

may 15th hmm. I think well all be dissapointed when nothing happens for a few weeks after this date lol 🙂

I don't think anyone really expects something to happen on a Saturday, but the date just signifies the start of the waitlist movement process.

Either way... I'm ready for it to get here. 🙂

Definitely.

Especially now that I'm officially on the Baylor waitlist, I'm ready for May 15th to get here. More importantly, May 17th (the Monday).

Is Baylor one of those quick turn around schools? I remember back when I used to read school threads before I applied I would see movement within a day or two of the 15th from a few schools, which is pretty nice. I wonder if schools already know who they're going to outright admit after they find out how many seats they have left to give out.

i would assume they do or at least have tiers. At least for the schools im WL at, there are near 200+ kids on the list. no way all 200 kids have a chance. Im sure they have their select crop of kids they really like, though since the one im on is unranked, ill never know where i stand 🙁.

I'm hoping Pritzker gives me a shot even though Im not a super stats kinda guy 😳

How do schools choose which applicants get the acceptances if they have "unranked" WL?

They just put people name on a dart board? 😕 😕 😕😕😕😕😕

I was kind of hoping for a fantastic bingo-like game.

As many posters have said, a school will try to maintain its gender, ethnic, GPA average, MCAT average, and 'future interest' distributions. So suppose a white female with a 3.7 GPA, 32 MCAT, and who wants to go into public health policy drops, they will replace her with a similar person. With 200 or more unranked people it is likely that they will find someone who closely resembles her.

So.. if I'm a shemale, 1/4 Asian 1/4 Caucasian 1/4 Hispanic 1/4 Extraterristrial, have 4.0 gpa 45 MCAT then I have no chance!!!?!???!!! because I'm so rare and there's noone like me?!?!?!?! no fair 😕😕😕

basically yah .

seriously though not all unranked WLs are replaced based on race, gpa, location, or any other arbitrary factor. Some do it like this but of course they have their favorites whether ranked or not. Best thing to do is chill and wait till the end of june. It should all be clear then 🙂.

Since schools can see whether or not we have any other acceptances, do you think they would look more favorably on (and be more likely to accept) a candidate who doesn't have another acceptance as oppose to someone who does? lol just a thought

Hoping to hear something from my number one choice. :xf: The anticipation is terrible. Unfortunately the school I'm waiting on doesn't tell us our wait-list position.

the wait is over (for me)! 🙂

good luck to everyone!!!!

Congrats Hifey!!! I hope I can get off Miami's waitlist now!

Is there an Official 2010 Waitlist Movement thread?

Good luck to everyone!!! Three waitlists and no accepts here so I'm keeping my fingers crossed...

i swear our state schools just like to take their time and drag it out more mdog🙁

I know, the school I'm waiting on has had no waitlist movement (or very little), much less than usual, and they are very surprised. I'm wondering if students holding multiple acceptances (even if only 1 allopathic school, maybe they held on to a DO acceptance since there is no rule about that), are waiting for financial aid offers to see where to go? I'm in a state that has 3 schools, 2 allopathic, 1 osteopathic and I'm sure some students got in to multiple schools. Wondering if the lack of movement is due to the students seeing which offers the best aid.

It could be that the other students are also waiting on other waitlists...
