Quick question about the infamous May 15th deadline. Can a school really "drop" you if you're still holding on to two acceptances? Or do they just pressure you to make the decision?

If you plan to hold onto more than one, call the school and get specific permission for your sake. It's wiser to make the choice quickly. Read the letters they've sent and pay attention to the TONE of the message... more often than not, they would ask you to make the decision quickly in fairness to applicants still waiting. Once accepted, you must show the school that you truly deserve it... by being responsible enough to choose thoughtfully AND quickly.

Honestly, I don't think schools find out for a while, and even after that, they wait a bit before you are notified. This is what I've heard though...

I think they already know and many other posters have backed that up. Why are any of you risking it? If you absolutely have to know about financial aid...CALL all of the schools you refuse to drop and notify them that you are unable to make a decision until you hear about it.

Thanks for your help so far. The problem I have is that I live in a western state without a med school and the state funds 6 people paying the difference between in and out of state tuition...i.e $20,000 a year. The way they decide who gets fundings is that the schools rank you. With the delay in applications, they haven't ranked yet so I was waiting because two good ratings is better than one. The school that I've decided on (OHSU) hasn't sent me anything in regards to making a decision. They don't even sent out their acceptance packet until early July. So that's where I'm at....

Call them up then to get the info you need. They might have it already.
