So I know there's a bunch of "I failed am I done for" threads, but my case is a bit different so I wasn't sure how bad it may look later. So my university requires us to take 2 health excercise classes, and I decided to take bowling as a sat/unsat. Turns out I suck and can't back out at this point. So how bad does it look to have quite possibly failed a sat/unsay bowling/physical excercise class. I feel as if a med school would look at this and say wow this guy can't even pass a sat/unsat BOWLING class. I know there's still a decent chance to get in. But will they seriously take this into account if I still have a good gpa and other reqs outside of this fail?

Usually these classes aren't really graded based on your skill, just your effort.

does "The Alley" mean anything to you?

What kind of hardcore bowling class is this that fails people for being bad at the sport?
Mine did. It was notoriously difficult. Basically you had to be able to bowl a certain score on exams to get your grade. And each exam the point value went up. Most students avoided it unless they were accomplished league bowlers already.

That being said the only impact failing a PE class will have is the dip in your GPA

Damn. I feel like this completely misses the point of PE classes

It was the only one at my school that did like that. I took volleyball and racketball. Both those classes only wanted to see improvement.

I understand that some users here are doubting that you can fail bowling as long as you apply effort, but you can't be too sure.

Obviously passing is better than failing. And to some ADCOMS, failing bowling is a negative, to others they may not care, but it won't be viewed as positive by any reasonable ADCOM. I don't think failing bowling is a deal-breaker though, however the best outcome is to apply 100% effort into passing.

What I do suggest is to treat bowling like an actual academic class. Practice the techniques at home; think about what your deficiencies are and how you can improve them. Apply effort in class. Maybe go out with your friends to bowl for fun? Most importantly, inform your instructor that you are concerned about your bowling performance and that you seek advice towards improvement.

I almost failed music lessons because I'm not particularly good at instruments. (C-)

Still have 2 MD IIs

Guess concert pianist just wasn't in the cards for me

you'll be fine

I had a martial arts elective during my senior year. My friend got an A while he missed class every other week and I didn't, even though I went to every single class 🙁

I think you'll be fine OP

For those of you wondering how the actual heck I may fail a bowling class of all things 🙂laugh🙂 you need about a 130 not counting the exams you take as well. I go about every day (and I do mean about every day, for about an hour or two at least) to practice and currently bowl about a 90. I know, I'm pathetic lol. On the GPA side, as a sat/unsat class it doesn't affect my GPA if I fail, it only appears on the transcript as a U. Hope this helps, and thanks for the comments and advice. I was mainly worried they would see this and think I'm lazy or something. Good to know this won't hurt me TOO much if I bomb...guess I just gotta keep trying and see what happens

AdCom Member #1: Wow, this kid is really impressive. 3.94 GPA, 3.90 sGPA, great ECs, and 522 on his first attempt at the MCAT!
AdCom Member #2: That's pretty darn good. What he score on V-CARS?
AdCom Member #1: 131.

AdCom Member #2: Lmaooo wtf what a loser. Throw his app in the trash where it belongs.

If the school pre-screens based on GPA/MCAT, an F that is weighted equally as any other class may bring you down a few hundredths to a tenth of a point depending on how many classes you've taken (it'll make more of a splash if you're a junior rather than a senior, for instance). If you're borderline already, you might miss some of the pre-screening cutoffs that some schools may have. But if you make it past that stage and they actually review your application, it's no biggie. Unless, like other people have said, your school usually grades based on effort and adcoms know that. It probably will make for a good interview discussion though.

LOL that is legitimately what I was worried about when I first thought of the prospect of me failing. I guess seeing someone else say it puts in more of a perspective. Thanks for the good laugh.

Effort only matters.
I joined intermediate volleyball, and i have no athletic background.
