I currently hold 3 acceptances all of which the money is due by the end of the next week. The problem is that I just keep flip-flopping around about whats important in a medical school. Heres maybe a quick summary and maybe someone can give me some good insight

CCOM - Out of my three acceptances I was least impressed with the facilities and students here (probably the tour guides fault). However, I am from the chicago area and am absolutely in love with the rotations that are offered at the school, especially since they are all in the chicago area (my favorite city)

KCUMB - ridiculously impressive facilities with very nice students. I felt very comfortable on the campus though the outlying area is a little scary (nothing too bad). Also I am unsure of the rotation situation and having to be out of state so that mkaes me a bit apprehensive.

NSUCOM - Also great great facilities with a college atmosphere much more like my undergrad. Additionally the weather is just so freaking beautiful. I am scared by the high primary care percentages. I dont know if I want to be primary care or not but I dont want to feel forced to enter into it if its not for me.

I know the final decision comes down to me but im just not sure. Whats more important, feeling comfortable at the school your first 2 years (KCUMB) or feeling secure and excited about the experiences offered your second 2 years (CCOM), or having a lot of women walking around in bikinis while I say I'm a pediatrician (NSUCOM) 😉...

I know a lot of people wont be able to help me with this but if you have any insight on this decision it would really really help me out. Im definately running out of time to make this decision. Thx to anyone who can help me out!

First off I want to say CONGRATS! on your 3 acceptances. You should be proud of yourself, and you're very fortunate to have to make a decision like this. To be honest with you, if cost being equal, I would pick the place that I would be happiest at.

You said NSU has a high primary care % but if you don't want primary care work hard when you start and you'll get what you want. Don't worry about the little details just make sure you're going to be happy where you end up.

Good luck on your decision.

I really wish I could have just hated 2 of them and then it would be nice and easy!!!...but they're all so freakin' great schools in my opinion and i dont know what will make me happy...this is kinda an experience ive never been through!
Thx for the input though....every little thing truly does help!!

I can understand your confusion. Only I've got it narrowed down to 2 schools. I like that NYCOM lets you do rotations in the city, which is where I'm from, but I really liked UNECOM's campus and atmosphere. So it's do I go where I'll be happier the first 2 years, or the last 2 years? I'm considering just putting both schools into a hat and picking one.

hahaha...you do have pretty much the exact same problem as me...and now thx to you all i can think about is where im gonna get a hat!!!!...hah...theres got to be a better way!

If I were you, I'd choose CCOM. If you love the city, are familiar with it, and are impressed with the rotation sites offered, that sounds unbeatable to me.

The level of success you have during your first two years of school have little to do with which school you attend. It's what you bring to the table in terms of intelligence and talent that will determine your level of mastery of the material. Go with CCOM...if anything for the great hospitals available to you later on in your schooling.

(for perspective, I'm an osteo. MS-IV)

To answer your question, years 3 & 4 are going to be more important than the first two years. Therefore, I'd go with CCOM based on what your first post says. Unless there were big differences in costs or in how you felt about the schools, or if you really just hated CCOM when you were there (since you're nearby, maybe go for another visit?)

From what you wrote, you really have the least compelling reasons to go to NSU. You can also try Depakote's spreadsheet idea - or a modified version of it.

CCOM😀 hands down...but i am biased LOL.

Seriously, i think bkpa2med is right about the % of primary care etc. If u want to get, lets say, surgery you can work hard from the start, and i assure you, you will get there.
I don't know your personal situation but if i was holding the acceptances you do i would go to CCOM. I love that school, I love the DO i shadow(CCOM alumn) who is amazingly successful, our previous SG also was from there...and i love the location (I live here right now and so does my S.O)...but i think that NSU is also an amazing school, but remeber that wether and women in bikinis is the leat important factor in med school.
Chances are you will studdy a lot and having additional distractors is never good
I think you should sit down and really think where you felt the best...forget about statistics...we are not lab mise if we want something we can go and get it.
Just go somewhere where you will feel the best. After all you will have to be there for quite a while and nothing is more distructing like being in a place you don't like.
:luck:

ok well f it...that 3 people in a row with really good points...must be a sign from god...CCOM it is!!

seriously...thanks alot to kicia, ortho, valsalva, music, bkpa. You guys/girls pretty much cleared up and summed up everything I think I was secretly thinking myself. You guys were incredibly helpful!!...but im remembering your names if i end up hating it!!! hehe j/j thx

OP, I think the NSU primary care percentages are skewed since Florida is one of the 5 states that makes you do a rotating internship if you want to practice there in the future. They might be counting all those internships as primary care residencies..?😕 I only say that because when you look where people match and for what it does not seem like anyone has an issue about getting into specialties.

if i only get in to CCOM (*crosses fingeres*) this is where i am going😀 ...I am not saying other schools are bad it's just that CCOM fits perfectly to everything i want.
I even was as close as deciding on applying ONLY there next cycle...but my friend told me that is a silly idea

hah...yea I think putting all your eggs in one basket probably isn't the best approach!...It must be a good feeling to know exactly where u want to go...im sure you'll be able to get there too!...are you from the chicago area by any chance? since u love the school so much

yes i am from ChicagoLand😀 (in a way because i am an immigrant too).
But i am very very nervous about the next cycle. My stats are not too great (i made a mdapplicants profile if you care to look 😉 ) and i am yet to take the MCAT...grrr.

and i guess you won't have a cultural shock LOL. I bet you drive to Chitown sometimes to go to clubs etc.

haha, i wasnt trying to sell. Just clearing that up. In fact, I think you should probably choose CCOM too. Seems you would be most happy there. Its a high quality school! Good luck!

Heh heh - okay - guess I'm changing my screen name....

No seriously - I left out adding anything I've heard about these schools in my post and just based what I said on your post. It sounds like your reasons for chosing CCOM will make for a comfortable choice for you, and that means you will succeed!! I know it is very tough - I'm torn b/w DMU and UMDNJ myself, and never EVER thought it would be so hard to chose!! Good luck! :luck:

fashion model and personal trainer?...i was just lying before but now I actually hope you do get into CCOM 😉 j/j

And yea I've made it up to chicago quite a few times but my undergrad was closer to indianapolis so I tended to spend more time there. Always loved chicago more though!

Thanks - BTW, I actually appreciated and partially agreed with your comments about that but didn't respond at the time for a few reasons. There's a lot great about DMU and I've been very cautious to not get caught up in the show they put on but to like it for other more substantial reasons, which I do. In spite of the fact that I liked it much better than UMDNJ, it is a LOT farther from home, and a lot more expensive. So the choice for now is either the school I loved that's farther and costs more, but everyone is nicer, or the school I liked so-so, but is closer and cheaper, and be surrounded by Yankees fans 🙂eek: ) ... LOL!! (Hopefully UMass will make this decision moot... :luck:)

Anyway - I think you will be happy wherever you decide to go, but CCOM sounds like the place you'll be happiest of these choices. Good luck!! :luck:
