After spending a very hefty amount of time on predents.com reviewing the stats of the Fall 2010 cycle, I am starting to feel more relieved. I went through and looked at the stats for the students who got acceptances and rejections at the schools I'm applying to. Turns out some of the stuff I've been reading on SDN has been slightly misleading. I always get the feeling that if you don't have 20+ DAT scores and above a 3.5 then there's no hope. Well there is! I can't tell you how many people I saw that got in with stats lower then mine (we're talking a 17 PAT and 18 AA and TS). It really does help how well rounded you are. So if you're scores and GPA aren't all that great, there is still hope if you're involved with stuff outside of school. I have also talked to several dental students and they can't stress the importance of having a good interview. I was seeing people with 3.8 GPAs and 22-25 DAT scores getting rejections, so I'm thinking maybe they were just horrible interviewers. To everyone out there that has less than desirable parts to their application, do your best and don't give up! I highly recommend you scope out predents.com if you haven't. Wow, totally just sounded like a motivational speaker there, but sometimes this site gets me so down and I figured there are others out there like me that have lost a lot of confidence by seeing the competition. Good luck everyone!

What I can't figure out is whether those with lower stats got in because they reapplied? Because I really don't want to go through all of this again.

That is a great point. There are a lot of things that can factor in, but I'm just happy to see that I may have a better chance getting an interview than I thought. :xf:

W/E - next cycle I heard you're going to need a MS degree, 4.0 gpa and a 31 DAT just to get an interview! On top of that at least three publicantions in well known science journal.

Phew. Good thing I'm applying this cycle.

Dude predents is a bunch of narcissistic pricks that show off their stats(I am a little jealous) to boost there ego don't go off the individual stats go off ADEA guide. Also a lot of schools will have their own reports.

+1

That site tends to have the higher scores/GPAs submitted.

Of course, there will always be people getting in with somewhat lower stats than the average stats stated, but you have to remember that these are not the "norm" and you must not get too hopeful by looking at these people, thinking that YOU may be in this category. But you are right, these stats are only good as a guide and will never be able to accurately predict your chances of getting in. I always say, you will never know for sure until you get your rejection letters because miracles do happen! 🙂

data above or below an average is normal.

predents

Data sample: 1/14 = ~1200 people
fake data out of real data(that i found): At least 10 people.

you take a look at ADA studies for 2008 or 2007 and look at how many people scored 25+ applied and check predents... I think you will get your answer.

Some schools have fake profiles created just to increase the stats of that particular school... to discourage future applicants w/o ADEA book to not apply there.

In reviewing the data from 2008, the average accepted scores are about a 19AA and a 3.5-6 cGPA - and remember, that is an AVERAGE - so people got in with both above and below that. You should always take everything about the crazy scores you see people getting on here with a grain of salt. People who get high scores are much more likely to talk about them, and people who get average scores not so much, and people with below average scores even less - so you're always going to hear more high scoring people.
