After spending a very hefty amount of time on predents.com reviewing the stats of the Fall 2010 cycle, I am starting to feel more relieved. I went through and looked at the stats for the students who got acceptances and rejections at the schools I'm applying to. Turns out some of the stuff I've been reading on SDN has been slightly misleading. I always get the feeling that if you don't have 20+ DAT scores and above a 3.5 then there's no hope. Well there is! I can't tell you how many people I saw that got in with stats lower then mine (we're talking a 17 PAT and 18 AA and TS). It really does help how well rounded you are. So if you're scores and GPA aren't all that great, there is still hope if you're involved with stuff outside of school. I have also talked to several dental students and they can't stress the importance of having a good interview. I was seeing people with 3.8 GPAs and 22-25 DAT scores getting rejections, so I'm thinking maybe they were just horrible interviewers. To everyone out there that has less than desirable parts to their application, do your best and don't give up! I highly recommend you scope out predents.com if you haven't. Wow, totally just sounded like a motivational speaker there, but sometimes this site gets me so down and I figured there are others out there like me that have lost a lot of confidence by seeing the competition. Good luck everyone!
