i just received an invitation from mayo.

what does everyone think about their frozen section method? in their letter they say that they do things differently at mayo but that this is actually advantageous to the resident training there. do you buy this? in addition to getting at least 8 months of frozen section, you get 3 months of permanent section. do any of you residents have an opinion about this and know whether i would get adequate training doing things this way. i would love to live in rochester (i heard it's a great place, close to family, and i don't mind the cold) and the mayo name speaks for itself. (atleast in other fields. is the mayo name in pathology not as good b/c of their unique situation?) anyone with knowledge about mayo, please shed some light. thanks!

BUMP

there has to be someone out there with an opinion or some insight bout mayo.

I posted a lot of stuff in the "interviews" topic a couple of months ago, I would look in there. Don't really want to get into it all again, if you have other more specific questions I am sure people would be happy to answert/

In brief, Mayo residents do come out well trained, and according to folks there, the transition to other styles of doing path is pretty seamless. There are some pretty big differences though.

thanks yaah. i went back and read that stuff and it was really helpful. it makes me feel better about the possibility of ranking mayo very highly. i guess i still need to go and visit, but your comments provided me some reassurance that i will get great training there, even if it is slightly different from what i would get elsewhere.
