Just received an email for a Mayo telephone interview! Great!!!! I called and scheduled the interview -- guess my app made it through the first round! According to the email, after the phone interview they will notify within 2 wkks if you are to go to MN for an interview.

the usual questions: when was your AMCAS processed? when did you schedule the interview for (and when was the earliest possible date)?

man, if i could just hear from mayo and vandy this week, i could close the book on this secondary thing....
 
i got a phone interview invite as well! I scheduled mine for this Wed...they said I could do it as early as tomorrow, eek! =) =)
 
That's awesome. How long ago did you get the email that your $75 had been received? I got that one today so I'm wondering if it will really be six weeks until I hear further.
 
Yeah, I just got the "we got your $$" email today as well.
 
I also recieved an invite to complete a phone interview and I am doing it on Thursday. Oh, favorite, the email says that you will hear from them 2 weeks after they recieve your LORs and review you complete application.
 
I recieved the "we got you payment email" on July 27th.

On another note, does anyone know what they ask about on the phone interview? I want ot prepare, but I don't know what for.
 
Congratulations guys! That's some exciting news! Last year, I heard they only phone-interviewed ~350-400 folks, inviting about 200 of them for on site. Just want to say make sure you check out interviewfeedback. They have questions from the past listed on there from the phone interview. Last year, when I went through mine, it seemed like every single question that Jane had were from the site. Unfortunately, it didn't seem to help cuz I got screened out after the phone interview...but yeah, make sure you check them out and at least you'll get the chance to think about them a little beforehand. I received the phone interview invite today as well. My AMCAS was processed on 6/9/2004, I submitted my fee to Mayo on 7/19/2004, and I received the "fee received" e-mail from Mayo on 7/27/2004.
 
congrats to all! between this and the vanderbilt interview thread, i think i'm going to have a heart attack 🙁
 
When you call them for the interview, make sure you use a land line instead of a cell phone. The measly long distance charge is worth the improved clarity of the call. Good luck 👍
 
Is anybody else feeling incredibly nervous? I haven't scheduled the interview yet because I don't want to do one for awhile - I can't stand not having a response on the other end and I'm worried that I won't be able to think of an answer. :scared: Blah! I'll get over it.....
 
When I sheduled my interview today I asked the lady if it was advantageous to do the phone interview early or wait till later. She said it was much better to do the phone interview early. They have rolling admissions, so the sooner you do the phone interview the sooner you can get a real interview and the sooner you can get accepted!

Last year when I had a phone interview I used the interview feedback website to prep for it, and I ended up with good, pre-planned answers to almost every question I was asked. I qualified for an on-site interview, but unfortunately was not accepted...I guess I still haven't been rejected yet either, but school has already started there for the year so I guess I'll just have to go somewhere else... :idea:

Congrats, kids! Make sure you know what the word "humility" means, because a friend of mine got the phone interview last year and when they asked why humility was important in doctoring....well I think you see where I'm going with this....

I'm afraid I can't really help you guys on the phone interview - MD/PhD didn't have to do them, which is too bad. My classmates seem to think the phone interview was a fun experience. I guess I'll never know. Sorry!
 
I got the email yesterday as well, I'm praying that I get the interview....

I had the interview this week. It really isn't too bad, just be yourself and have fun with it. That's all the advice I can give...its nothing to stress over.
 
superdevil, if you look at the interview feedback section of the website, there's someone who posted all 20-odd questions from the mayo phone interview (it is standardized)... If i get a phone interview, i hope it's the same this year 🙂

you know, sometimes i wonder if i could even get into med school without the internet! :laugh:
 
okay, well, the telephone interview wasn't bad at all.


But......I completely sucked....... 🙁 .....as in, i really couldn't answer a few of the questions. There goes Mayo.

Sadness.....waiting for the rejection envelope to come in the mail.

I'm curious about the timing of the phone interview. As I understand, we get approximately 25 questions in approximately 30 minutes. How strictly are the number of questions and total length of the interview enforced? In other words, if there are exactly 25 questions, and we need to get through them all in 30 minutes, does that mean that we get just over a minute per question? Is it possible to answer some questions in 10 seconds and other questions in 3 minutes? If we ramble on with any given question too long, will the interviewer cut us off? Can we take as long as we need with each question even if it means that the interview extends for about 45 minutes?

It *is* a standardized interview so everyone gets the same questions. Some questions will be a yes or no, and other may take more time or not it really depends on personal experiences. Do not sweat it...the questions are straight forward and not meant to trip you up. I hope to see you here soon for the on site interview good luck!
 
Any more phone interviews for anyone? For those who had their phone interview, have you heard anything back from Mayo yet? I had my phone interview and was just curious if anyone has a status update.

I just got rejected pre-phone interview by snail mail. I didn't like that stupid school anyway. J/K. Good luck those still in the process.

Just got the e-mail today...right after I got back from checking my mail for the rejection i *knew* was in there. This is SWEET; it's a really big deal to me even if I never get any farther with them.

I talked to a friend who did summer research for two years at Mayo...and he said they use GPA*10+MCAT and you're in good shape if you're >= 67....

Although I'm not applying to Mayo...and I have no clue other than his word if this is true or not...plus they may adcoms could be doing this differently this year than in the past...so take that little tidbit with a very large helping of salt.

i'm afraid not. my little GPA/MCAT quotient/thingy is about 75 and i got the pre-secondary boot.

(maybe i just suck, though-->see the "waiting on vandy" thread... :scared: )
