has anyone had success with obtaining an MBA as opposed to spending that time in a post-bacc program or MS and then reapplying to DS? obviously the extra work in science is important but i also feel an MBA would be as important, if not more beneficial to a future dentist. how do you think schools would view this hypothetically if you could have a 3.8-4.0 in the MBA program?

You can take some upper division science courses like Microbiology, Immunology, Embryology,... etc while you're MBA'ing...

An MBA may be "more beneficial to a future dentist", unfortunately you need to gain an acceptance into a ds before you can reap any benefit and an MBA, unlike an MS, will not convince anyone that you can handle upper division science courses.

i think that if u have already taken upper division science courses and did well in them, getting a MBA would be a great idea! But if u are going for a MBA to make up for a bad gpa(especially in science courses), then it is a very bad idea.

I agree. I'm getting my MBA while applying to dental schools now. I was a Biochem major for undergrad so I don't have any problem having enough upper division science classes. 😎
