Hi guys I am planning on taking the MCAT at the end of summer 2014. I am class of 2015, but have to take a gap semester due to me not being pre-med at the beginning of undergrad. Now my question is will the old MCAT 2014 be okay for me to take even though I will be applying to begin med school in September 2016. The scores will still be valid--as most are valid for 3 years at most schools. I am hearing however, that some schools may not accept the old MCAT for med classes entering in 2016?! Basically I don't want to spend my whole summer of 2014 slaving away on the MCAT, take the exam, and then just to have to study for the new MCAT and take that. If this is the case I will just wait to take the new MCAT until I finish undergrad and role with that. I don't want to have top study for this test twice. Yes, I am trying to avoid the new MCAT as the materials will not be as accurate and thorough, AAMC FL's not as abundant etc. The new MCAT is simply uncharted territory, and I think anyone could benefit from taking the old one if they can. Also I have a friend who just took the MCAT who is going to GIVE ME his full set of Berkley Review materials, Princeton Review, and Examkrackers. So is there any truth to med schools in 2016 not accepting the old MCAT score even though it is still valid? I don't see how this would be allowed and fair if the score wasn't expired yet. Any input is greatly appreciated guys!

I was planning on doubling physics with orgo solely so I could avoid taking the new MCAT. If many schools won't accept the old MCAT then it looks like I'll have to change plans. Damn.

I am not sure how true this is...which is why I am trying to get input from some other parties. I don't see how old MCAT can be denied if scores are still valid--it's not our fault the time we take the exam!

I highly doubt that old scores will be rejected. Let's see what other people have to say about it.

From an official source, could have been the website, I read that starting in 2016, schools were going to only take scores from the new MCAT. Citation needed. But my guess is that they will take scores as late as 2017 as many schools take scores as old as 2 to 3 years. I'm excited about the new MCAT myself.

I was planning to take it the summer after my sophomore year.

Now we have biochemistry and science of behavior. 😡 Got to make a new schedule.

I am also graduating year 2015. I want to attend med school fall 2015. (and I also want to take the 2014 MCAT at the end of summer) I plan on studying now until then. I'm not sure if that's a good idea since everyone is slamming anything longer than 4 months. What months of MCAT is offered 2014? Would I be able to apply early as possible with this? I'm sorry for all the questions I am sort of lost.

I hate being the first ones to have to change. I'm also stacking up in science class in hopes to be well prepared to take the MCAT before it changes.

Why? I love it.
It'll make me feel even greater when I crush everybody.

From the AAMC website (2015 MCAT FAQs):

https://www.aamc.org/students/applying/mcat/mcat2015/faqs/

Q: "Examinees will need to be informed that, as of a certain date, medical schools will only accept the new exam with their application. How is that being addressed?"

A: "Each medical school establishes its own policy for the oldest MCAT score that will be considered in admissions. It is the applicant's responsibility to verify each school's policy. It is likely that medical schools will continue to accept current MCAT scores for a period of time after the MCAT2015 exam is introduced. The AAMC will work with medical schools to make all MCAT scores available through AMCAS and the MCAT Score Reporting Service through the 2017 or 2018 application cycle (to be determined), after which only MCAT2015 scores will be reported. For medical schools that accept older (i.e., pre-2015) MCAT scores after the AAMC discontinues the automatic transmission of these older MCAT scores, applicants will still be able to obtain and send their pre-2015 score reports from the MCAT Testing History (THx) System."
