My mcat score is 42-52%\
bio 28-43%
chem 28-43%
verbal 77-92%
psych 44-59%
Is it still possible to get into a medical school?
should i retake? if i retake , I'm not sure if ill do better cause my practice tests were average but my gpa is 3.7?

To give some reference, look at the percentage comparisons listed on the old MCAT from 2008, the data is a bit old but it can give you an idea of how you did: https://www.aamc.org/students/download/85332/data/combined08.pdf

Overall 42%-52% on the old administration was an MCAT score of 25-26. I'm not sure if the percentiles mean the same thing as they used to, as I'm not too familiar with the new test. If it is the same, then I would advise you to study again for the test and retake. I would wait until others who are more familiar with the new test comment as well.

If you want to get into an MD school
definitely retake ( and apply next year).
Don't let this get you down though, buckle down and destroy that test!

Even at the higher end of your percentile range, this is not a very competitive score.... If I were you, I would start studying now and retake it when you feel ready. Don't rush these things. Maybe take a class. You'll be fine if you can pull it up to 65%+.

How did you feel post test prior to getting your ranking? I was doing well on the practice tests, but the actual thing really threw me a curve ball. My largest concern was the CARS section bc I didn't even get to two of the passages (normally I would intentionally answer all C for the hardest passage in order to save time for the others, but in this case I had to do it for two of them). The test sort of sucked me in with easy but very long passages that burned my time. How did you feel right after the test and did your score surprise you?

Hey Guys,

I've read a lot of posts on here but this is the first time I'm posting. I would really appreciate some help on where to apply. Below are all my relevant stats in simplified form.

Overall GPA: 3.86
MCAT Score (Just got them today!): 511 (85th percentile, all sections fairly even distribution)

ECs:
1 Publication - 20 hours
Thesis Writing Research Program + 1st author publication - 200 hours
7 Honors/Rewards/Recognitions: Officer of the Year, Science Seminar Series, AP Scholar, IB Scholar, Honor Societies etc.
National Science Foundation Recognition for Research Excellence - 20 hours
2 Research Conferences/Symposiums - 9 hours
Physician Shadowing (5 types) + Medical Student Rounds Sit-ins - 204 hours
Research Program #1 (2 years) - 70 hours
Medical Event Executive Board (2 years) - 600 hours
Research Lab Assistant (2 years) - 1016 hours
Research Program #2 (1 year) - 125 hours
Microbiology Teaching Assistant - 284 hours
Medical Organization (3 years, Director, Vice President of Operations, President) - 1665 hours
Non-Medical/Clinical Volunteering - 173 hours
SGA Committee, Relay for Life Committee, Health Week Committee, Education/Literacy Committee, Different Abilities Committee - 185 hours
Hospital/Clinical Volunteering (4 years) - 247 hours

Where all can I apply? I know my ECs are excellent and my GPA is solid but because the MCAT score plays such a large role in where to apply I'm not sure what schools I can apply to. Mainly because I'm not sure what to do with my 511 in terms of where to start. I'm applying to all of my state schools + Brown + Dartmouth. I want to apply to 20-30 schools and need help deciding where.

Thank You!

This is not your post. Make your own post on the WAMC thread, hijacking posts with our own WAMC is not cool.

Don't retake until you are ready and getting practice test scores you want the real score to be like.

If you can get that verbal score you should have a much higher score in your sciences. Your issue isn't reasoning as it is for many with the MCAT. It's with preparation and knowing the content properly.

I don't know if this helps but I talked to the admissions board of Creighton medical school on July. Apparently alot of school don't really know exactly how to interpret this new scores, so what Creighton medical school is doing for now is considering scores above 50% as competitive. So their going focus a little bit less on MCAT scores and look at the overall profile of the student.
