Hi everyone,

I am looking through an compiling my list of schools and I'm really worried because I don't know which schools to even apply to since my MCAT score is so low.

I have A LOT of EC's
200 hours in the E.R
200 hours at a Mental hospital
2 years at an ADHD lab
1 year at cognitive neuroscience lab where I wrote my honors thesis and i am currently in the process of editing and rewriting for possible publication with my post doc
I have shadowed a nephrologist for a week
I spent two weeks at a rural clinic in pakistan 2 summers ago
I taught bio lab for two semesters
I tutor high school students
and I have had a clerical library job for 4 years

I want to apply mostly to M.D schools and some D.O. schools
any recommendations?
what are the NEW M.D. schools that have opened up? is it risky to go to a medical school that has recently opened up and does not have a graduating class yet? are they easier to get into?
oh and I'm a california resident -__- so please recommend out of state schools that accept a good number of california applicants

What is your MCAT breakdown? Although your GPA is decent, basically on par, your MCAT doesnt make you stand out and hurts you. I think you are fine for DO school, and your EC's seem pretty good.Too have a good chance at MD, a retake may be needed, but a 27 is by no means out of reach. I think the average applicant has a 28, and average accepted was a 31.2, so you kinda below both of those. So apply early and broadly

I would look at these schools
quinnipiac
western michigan
creighton
virginia Tech

I wouldn't bother applying to MD schools with an MCAT of 26. They just don't go low on my MSAR. DO programs, you're OK for.

Google is your friend: search "New MD schools"

what are the NEW M.D. schools that have opened up?

No, because they're thoroughly vetted by their sanctioning bodies. The risk is in the faculty learning how to deliver a curriculum. So, you will be a guinea pig, but being a pioneer is enticing to some. if you're a good self-studier, it will help though. Some new Faculty will probably not be able to teach their way out of a paper bag.

Easier to get into? A tad more, but the only way for you to know is try. Take this app cycle on the chin, and re-take the MCAT and aim for >30.
