I'd really like to hear what nontrads that work think about taking the mcat prior to taking biochem. Because of scheduling and trying to graduate soon, I can study and take the mcat in June/July 07 and apply for fall 09. I have had all bio, genetics, physics 1&2, and org chem 1 & 2. Once I get to next fall
(07), I'll have a pretty full class load and I don't know where the mcat study time would fit in. I've made all A's so far and wondered if you guys think taking the mcat early is better even though I'll not have had any biochem.

you don't need biochem for the mcat. i think the only thing they may have on there is amino acid titrations but that is really simple and you can just look through a review book.

I'd say it's more important to have lots of study and prep time for the MCAT than it is to wait until you've taken biochem. For me, biochem is helping my MCAT prep, because it builds on the MCAT "basics" (carb structures, metabolic processes). But biochem isn't specifically on the MCAT.

Best of luck to you.

Hmm. I'm taking MCAT early summer i think. With only:

CHEM I & II
OCHEM I
PHYSICS I
BIO I & II

From what i've heard that primarily covers MCATs, and any additional info can be attained by reviewing study-guides.

Good luck to us both i guess! KATiE

If you had decent subject coverage in your prereqs, you will see nothing new on the MCAT that would be covered by a biochem course. A huge number of MCAT takers (most, I suspect) have not taken biochem, since it is not a prereq for most med schools.

But do not take the MCAT until you have adequate time to study for it. It is more important to get a solid score than to take it by a certain cycle.
