Hi, im a junior at a state university about to enter my senior year in the fall. Currently have a 3.337 GPA but I'm taking 2 summer courses that should bring it up close to a 3.5. I probably could have done a quick research but I wanted to know what exactly is on the mcat ? Ive take gen bio 1& 2 and cell bio. Im taking anatomy in the fall. Should I wait to take the mcat after anatomy ? and how does my GPA look? Im scared that I may have too many C's weighted in my science GPA with chemistry classes 🙁 its looking like : C,C,C,
D->B, C. Thanks for any feedback.

Too many C's can hurt but what I worry about more is the fact that you didn't think to go to the aamc's website and look at the mcat link and find out whats on it. You shouldn't take the MCAT until you're 100% prepared. My guess by speculation, wait until you finish all the prereqs

Good Luck

You don't need anatomy for the MCAT, but I have heard from pre-meds who found it useful. The pre-reqs are most important, and you should make sure you comprehend the respective subjects before reviewing for the exam. You take the MCAT when you're prepared enough to do well.

Maybe you should consider fewer upper-level sciences (that you don't need) and work on taking some courses that will boost your cGPA.

I personally thought anatomy is next to useless on MCAT (excluding sensory organs/brains for P/S) while physiology is much more important

Second that. Anatomy isn't really touched. If it is, then it's really basic.

But you really should look at the aamc website for a list to help you understand what topics are on the mcat.

You should consider taking fluff classes, and retaking some courses. If you feel comfortable, take anatomy.

I would check your math first. I don't know the situation specifically but 2 classes in summer shouldn't boost your gpa much. And maybe a science/math+ lab? If you ace it, you might boost your gpa a little bit.

EDIT: Here's how I see it for you.
I'm going to estimate that you have 90 hours completed and will complete 6 this summer.
If you are taking a total of 30 hours next year, your GPA will be 3.52.
If you are taking a total of 40 hours next year, your GPA will be 3.55.
If you are insane and decide to take a total of 50 hours next year, your GPA will be 3.58.
If you have less than 90 hours completed, 50 hours might be able to give you a 3.6. But needless to say you would not be able to study for the mcat much at all if you did do that.

Thank you. yes I'm at about 90, maybe a little over, and taking about 30 next semester. I might stay an extra semester though to finish up my biology degree with a public health minor so those extra classes may help too, but I know I could've done better these past 3 years and time is unfortunately not on my side 🙁

What is your science gpa? If your science gpa is below 3.0 you might also reconsider taking the mcat. Low science gpa means you probably do not grasp the science foundations needed for the mcat.
