I know there are a few posts on this already via search, but I want to see what you guys think. I have been on the fence between dentistry and physician, but finally shadowed 2 more dentists and another doctor and am leaning towards physician.
I will be done with my pre-reqs Spring 2014. I will be taking orgo 2, physics 2, anatomy 1 and 2 courses to finish my majors (Political science and economics). If I take the MCAT in June, would it be outside the realm of possibility to apply that cycle or would I have to wait an extra cycle, assuming I score high enough (in which case I will have no problem waiting an extra year).
Additionally, I will only be applying to DO schools because I actually like the OMM idea and my primary care physician is DO and he has changed my life. I want to do that! Anyhow my question is: Should I apply to my local state MD schools even if I prefer DO philosophy?
Finally, I am a non-traditional student that will be applying at the age of 32/33 (depending on which cycle i apply to), I work full time (40-45 hours per week), pay rent, bills, etc. while I am in school full time (12-18 credits every semester for 3 years) and have maintained a 3.5 GPA. With that said: I have the shadowing, but when do I find the time to volunteer? I volunteer one day per week at the local nursing home reading to the patients for the last 4 years (not career driven volunteering), but its not clinical. Should I stop volunteering there to volunteer in the ER?
