Hi everyone. I wanted to post my MCAT concerns. I just got my scores: 10, 10, 10, N. I'm content with everything but the N!! I want to know if it's true that DO and MD schools don't really care about the ws.

I also heard that some DO schools don't accept good candidates because they don't want to waste an acceptance on someone who's going to choose an MD school over a DO school. And we all know how hard it is to get into MD schools. My fear is that I won't fit what either is looking for. In my AACOMAS personal statement I talked about why I prefer the DO philosophy over the MD philosophy (I really do), but I feel like everyone applying to DO schools is going to say the same type of thing whether or not they mean it.

I don't think you have anything to worry about with your MCAT scores. There are people at both types of schools with higher and lower numbers so I don't think your scores would be held against you in any case. Don't worry about the WS. Your verbal score will compensate for it, and it's really not THAT bad! Make sure you get a good letter from a DO and you should be fine as long as your GPA is in 3.3+ range.

The "N" is not in concern.

DO schools will not see any strong candidates as MD wanna-be unless it indicates in the essay

Hi RDO--congratulations on your scores!...I don't think you should worry at all. Have some confidence and wverything will be okay. I don't think the DO school worries about how well we do on this standardized test. I think they care more about our personality. So donch worry.

I think DO schools do care about how you score on the MCAT. Just like MD schools, they use the MCAT as a universal yardstick to compare you to other applicants since people come from different universities and academic backgrounds. If anything, MD and DO schools use MCAT scores to thin out their applicant pool so they can select people to interview. Unless you have some incredible credentials (started your own business, built a hospital in your free time), it is dangerous to think MCAT scores don't matter.

I think DO Dude is right. The best thing you can do now to get in an osteo school is get a good letter of rec. from a D.O. and read up on osteopathic medicine: 1st) to make sure that you really want to be a D.O., and 2nd) to impress the interview panel. If you have good grades and a good personality, I'm confident that you could get into several schools.
