Hi all,

I wonder if it is possible to do this: Can one take the MCAT in April, get an OK score (say a 30), send out applications in June, AND re-take the MCAT in August AND submit those scores (if they are higher) to the med schools he/she applied to (that he/she hasn't been rejected from)?

Yes, but many schools will wait to receive those August scores to even look at your app, so you'll be putting yourself in a bad spot. I guess you could just not say that you plan on taking the August MCAT. As long as you don't have that box checked they assume your April scores are it, and look at your app right away. I'm sure once your scores from August do get posted, they will take them into consideration. It's probably school dependent.

Just FYI, AMCAS sends your scores -- you don't really get to decide to only submit them if they are higher. Whether a school only considers higher ones, or averages them or whatnot is up to the school. I imagine it would look bad and could hurt you if you did well in April, but then the score dropped significantly in August.

this is helpful to me. i don't wanna study for that hellish test again if i don't have to!

if you get the average score for the places you want in april, scrap the august test. most schools don't like to see people using the mcat as practice for the mcat. take it when you can do your best. i've heard many times it's best to take it once and be really prepared.
