Does anyone know what the MCAT averages are like for LECOM? On their website it says most successful applicants have 24 or higher. Most DO schools seem to say their average is around 27. Does anyone know which schools will be the most difficult to gain admission to of the more established schools? Some say Western U and others say PCOM. I was just wondering how a school like LECOM fits into this ranking. Of the schools I like, I want to go to either LECOM or UNECOM as my two top choices as they are in rural areas and I prefer this to a big city locale.

They told us at the interview that LECOM's mcat average is more like 26-27. Schools don't update their website stats regularly.

Consider the 24 a "Don't get below a 24".

In general, some say western is more difficult to gain admission primarily because it's a california school, while PCOM is also difficult to gain admission primarily because there's such a huge pool of applicants applied to their school each year for a class of 260 or so.

According to the newest edition of U.S. news & report,

LECOM-Erie: acceptance rate 14%, average mcat 8.7, average GPA 3.4
UNECOM: acceptance rate 6%, average mcat 9.0, average GPA 3.46
Western: acceptance rate 16%, average mcat 9.3, average GPA 3.52

Although alot of people critized the ranking in US news & report, i am sure these stats are up-to-date and can be used as references for you because they are released by the schools themselves afterall.

When I interviewed at LECOM-B, one of my interviewers told me their composite MCAT average was around a 28.

KCOM in Kirksville is also a small town in the midwest. Don't limit yourself when you apply, wait until interviews to get a good feel for each school.

:luck:

Yeah, the "24" stat hasn't been updated in a while...

I know that my class (2012) was much higher than that, but not sure what...From talking to my class I would guess around a 28. Can't think of anyone with <25. I know many with >30.

I know a bunch lower than that even 1 person with a 19!

I got a 27 and was invited to interview at Western and both lecoms, but not pcom

I was just accepted for the Class of 2014 with an MCAT score of 23.

Also, when I interviewed there 2 weeks ago the admissions committee rep that gave us a presentation had in the presentation that the avg MCAT score was a 26 for LECOM-Erie

I'm so happy someone has said they got in with a 23! I have a 24 and I'm beginning to feel discouraged. I have tons of experience and a couple awards, along with shadowing and volunteer. I would love to hear anyone else who got in with a 24! I try to not to worry and any positive comments will help! Good luck and congratulations to all accepted!

Keep your head up! I'm in a similar boat since I have a 24, too. This website can make you really discouraged sometimes. Hopefully you have a good gpa to balance you out. I'm rooting for you :luck:

I went to LECOM with a 24, my friend went with a 17 (learning disability)

They passed everything. Practicing doc now. Wicked smart. Knows way more than I do. Photographic memory and can essentially quote anything. Just goes to show that tests scores do not determine the quality of the physician.

That's awesome!!!!

Average science GPA is 3.40 the overall is 3.50. The average MCAT is 27.50, average indebtedness is 180,000.00.

Annette Shively the admissions coordinator for Bradenton wrote this when I was asking about the statistics of Lecom-B, earlier this year (March)

Average from the admissions presentation during my interview was a 27 or higher (the sub-scores added to over 27 if I'm not mistaken). That was for the class of 2016.

He who says he can and he who says he can't are both usually right.
