I find it interesting that AAMC charges over 200 dollars for the exam. Is it really necessary? I feel like its all about money in this profession. Test prep companies are trying to make money, AAMC, medical school cost is nuts, application, secondary, electronic letter services,...and on and on... but the funny thing is, with all these schools and companies revolving so much around money, it is still a sin to consider the medical profession for its high income. It just seems very hypocritical to me when they are all money hungry.

With that said, I can honestly say that I am doing this 50% for passion and 50% for the zeros at the end of my paycheck.

With a field with such high demand, it only makes financial sense for all those involved to try to take the maximum money from the people applying. If the MCAT was $250 instead of $200 you'd still take it, if it was $300 you'd still take it. And they know that, so of course they'll try to make money out of it. And like many people have said before, going into medicine for the money doesn't always make the most sense since many other professions out there pay a high salary much earlier than when you'd get one as a doctor.

I just paid $230 for i. Just keep your eyes on the paycheck at the end of the road. Not to mention the fact that medicine is way cooler than most other jobs.

It's basic economics. If everything else goes up (e.g. price of running computers in the test center, gas prices, software upgrade, etc...), the test fee will go up.

You'd been very surprised how much it actually costs to develop an exam like the MCAT. One of my friends is getting a PhD in assessment and he mentioned for the GREs it can upwards of $100K / question. I wouldn't be surprised if the MCAT is similar in nature.

You can still get 2 tacos from jack in the box for 99cents. its been the same since 1980's. 🙂
