Hi!

I had a question for everyone. Let me know if you have any experience with this, or know any success stories...

I took the MCAT in August 2001, totally choked and got 7P, 8V, 8B and a Q writing.

April 2003: 9V, 10P, 10B, R writing.

How will med schools view this???

THanks!!

They will view it as an improvement...you really should have gone for double digits in each section considering it is your second time. Your GPA will really detremine your chances but good job on the improvement.

Like he/she was getting ready to take the test and said, "well, Ill go light on verbal, aim for a 9, and then hope to have enough left for 10s in the other two sections"?

That is what I was going to say. He or she wasn't like "I don't think I will get a 10 on verbal. I'll just chill and get a 9. Maybe my other stats will be good enough."

I believe alphabeta's point is that while the score is an improvement, it is still only an average score, and the fact that it is a retake doesn't help.

It is definitely a score you can get into medical school with provided you have grades and achievements that offset this performance.

Personally, I know a person who got a 25 on his MCAT and was rejected from all schools to which he applied. He spent two years in an MPH program, and also retook the MCATs, scoring a 31 this time around. He ended up going to Ohio State.

I hope this helps.
