Hey Guys,
I need some help. I am preparing for an interview and I know they will ask why I had a low MCAT and How do I think I will do in Med School and on the Boards. What is the best way to approach this question?

a suggestion: don't be defensive about it
tell them that's a logical question and one you've thought a lot about yourself...

yeah i agree. It wouldn't hurt to say this, "I'm glad you asked cuz now I'll have the opportunity to explain it..." and fill in the reason.

How low are we talking about? Sometimes you can say it was just a bad day or a bad time to be taking it.

Tell them the truth. During an interview the BS detector is probably set to a fine detection level. Explain any unusual circumstances and point to grades that indicate that you can do the work. If your VR is high, use that to point out critical thinking skills necessary for passing the USMLE (I think there's something like a 90% correlation between passing it the first time and a high VR score).

I don't know if I'd say, "I'm glad you asked." I'd feel akward, wondering if they felt like I had spent a lot of time preparing an explanation. I'd just be honest. If you've taken the time to think about why your score was low, and what you will change to stop that from happening again in a similar situation it shows you have learned from the experience and are moving on. I would suppose that is the most important point.

If you did poorly in the PS section and have good grades in chem and physics I would point that out. So you didn't ace the MCAT, your grades who you are able to comprehend the material.

I agree with smc927. Just relax and be honest.

dont make excuses but do point out reasons for your low score. but most importantly...you should try to show them steps in which you have taken to remedy the low score. extra tutoring. going top extra classes without credit. external reading of journal articles....etc. if you havent done anything yet....well start!
