Exam is scheduled for tomorrow (too late to cancel) but I wont be taking it.
My advisor suggests that I take it just to get a feel for the environment etc but apparently med schools can now see VOIDed attempts if they request it and see there is no score for that day meaning voided.
Is this true? Even if they can see it, is this actually even going to matter?

Thanks!

You have a weird advisor. There are other ways to get a feel for the testing environment without having to actually spend money on the thing.

He's already spent the money, and now he doesn't want to take it. So the question is - go or don't go.

I've never heard of med schools being able to see void or no shows - I just know that it counts as one of your attempts in terms of how many times you can take it. Can you cite this new info?

I just dont feel ready to take it tomorrow and will postpone to a later date.

Some threads on sdn are saying med schools CAN see a VOID. I am not sure if this is true either bc I just called AAMC and they said med schools can't see it. But even if they can, does it even make a difference?

I'm just going to go ahead and trust the AAMC. If you've already spent the money - just go ahead and do it. Void if you want. Doubt they'll see it, and it they do it won't matter

I personally would take it and void. Considering you already paid and can’t get a refund you might as well show up and treat it as the most realistic practice test. Also I believe medical schools can’t see voids!

Definitely take it and void. Sitting through a full-length real test will be a valuable experience. I wouldn't recommend anyone pay to do this, but since the money is already spent you should do it.

This sounds like a bad idea. You basically are paying for an expensive FL, however, you will never find out if you get the questions right or wrong. No feedback = no improvement. Waste of time.

Sure, but a crucial detail here is OP cannot get a refund of any sort since the test is tomorrow. OP has already paid for the exam, so if I were in his/her shoes, I would at least want the practice of a FL. You wont be able to know what questions you got right or wrong, but you can definitely get a sense of pacing and see what topics come up repeatedly. Again, since the money is already spent, might as well try to get something out of it. But maybe this just seems obvious to me because I'm stingy and poor.

I'd like to add the void or no-show counts against the testing limit. Just fyi.

If you want to take it go for it and void at the end of the exam. I'm not going to show up only because it's a 2.5 hour drive for me.

I mean yes, the money is already spent. But if I sit through 7 grueling hours I might change my mind and click score at the end. Just saying.

1) they cant see if you voided. A void means your test is NEVER scored and is discarded so it can NEVER EVER be scored
2) the danger in sitting thru the exam is you might be tempted to let it be scored
3) your advisor is not giving good advice

I especially agree with the second point.

OP, if you know you are not ready based on your practice tests, then you know you are not ready.

I would not want you to sit through the test then at the end say “what the hell, that wasn’t so bad!” or “everyone feels bad right after taking it!” or “I really don’t want to take this again”... and get it scored ...
Only to get a poor score because you knew you weren’t ready.

Seeing as you won’t get feedback from the exam if you void, I don’t see much benefit od taking it and voiding it other than to maybe identify some weak areas as tough questions come up... but there are better and more productive ways to identify knowledge gaps
