Anyone taken the MCAT without having taken all the classes? Specifically OCHEM II? I am a bit nervous to start studying..

Yes. You’re fine. I took the mcat without taking biochem, physics II or either orgo. I had to do more content review than my friends Who had all of the prereqs but it was certainly doable. Especially if you’re just missing orgo 2 which is such a minor topic on the mcat it won’t make any real difference. Leah4sci On YouTube is really good at explaining orgo material at the cursory level that you need for the mcat btw

It’s not ideal to take the mcat without all of the prereqs+ more so if possible avoid doing that but if it’s a choice between taking it now or potentially delaying your app and you have confidence in your ability to self teach then you’ll be fine

Thanks. I have also heard that orgo II is a minor topic on the MCAT. Im surprised you got away with no BIOCHEM. I've heard that is huge. Thank!

Khan academy as a cursory intro, Kaplans biochem book and then hammering the aamc section banks was more than sufficient for biochem for me but once again, it’s not ideal and you’ll save yourself a lot of sleepless nights spent cramming by taking all of the recommended courses

There just no way in hell I would attempt the MCAT without taking biochem (with no physics ll on top of that). Too many ppl fall flat on their faces for the one that does well. Im glad it worked out in your case tho! OP, have you taken everything else at least? You will know if you are foundationally prepared after taking a practice test or two.

There's not a ton of organic chemistry on the exam anymore (back in my day...), however a lot of orgo 2 is low key biochem one and that is much higher yield for the exam.

It can be done if you have a good background of orgo 1, you'll just have to use resources to make sure you have all the orgo and biochem you need.

The more you know before the taking the MCAT, the better. Surprises are usually not good on such a high-stakes exam. I would recommend studying organic chemistry 2 topics as well as some basic biochemistry.

Also, please be aware the each school has different topics in Organic 1 vs. Organic 2. For example, I teach NMR spectroscopy in Organic 2, whereas it is taught in Organic 1 at another school.
