Sorry if this has been asked before, but I cannot find the answer to the exact question I am going to ask.

Background Info For Clarity:
-about to start sophomore year in Fall 2009
-deciding between bio ba or bio bs because of Alg Based physics and Calc 1 being required for the former, and Calc based physics and Calc 2 being required for the latter
-I have already taken Calc 1 and secured a B
-I hate calculus; I got okay grades in CLASS in IB HL Math, and a 2 on the IB HL exam if this shows my total lack of mathematical ability at all...
-I've taken AP Physics (Alg based)
-I might try to double major: bio and arts and performance
-taking 15 hours next semester (bio 1, ochem 1, improv (for acting), medical terminology, and government)
-survived 20 hours last semester while doing a theatre production and working occasionally part-time

My long winded question's thought process:
1) Someone on here said to take it the summer before junior year...can't find that post I may have been delirious
2) I am not currently enrolled in physics. this would mean not finishing physics 1 and 2 until after fall 2010
3) then I could not take the MCAT until halfway through my junior year
4) I hate retaking exams, and intend, like everyone I suppose, to do very well the first (only?) time around 🙂
5) Someone said the calc based physics helped them on the mcat, someone said the upper level course work helped them on the mcat, and my advisor said alg and calc based physics are equally acceptable for medical school (which I have found to be true.)
6) Calculus based physics at my school involves taking physics lab which sucks out 6 hours per week to dedicate to completing the lab report.
7) Did I mention I hate math?

So my questions are:
1) Is it worth it to take physics 1 now?
2) I hate calculus and would rather get a BA and not take calc based physics. Will I look like a pansy? Will I be okay on the mcat?
3) is it okay to not finish my "mcat prereqs" until halfway through my junior year and then take the exam in December? or the summer after my junior year?

p.s. thanks for your help
p.p.s hope my post isn't a bother
p.p.p.s please don't start a debate about ba versus bs, I've already read all of that (thank you)

1) I'd lean toward not taking 3 BCPM classes at once. Seems to me one would have to spread themselves pretty thin, especially if you have attached labs to deal with.

2) You won't look like a pansy; you won't need it for the MCAT. Some people naturally understand physics better with the calculus foundation, those are the only people who would benefit from calculus physics on the MCAT.

3) I took Bio and Physics my Junior year, and the MCAT in April of said year. It was doable, and I had just about all the information under my belt when I needed it. (I did go to some extra office hours in March to get some stuff cleared up though, that hadn't been taught in lecture yet).

So, for you, if you can finish up those prereqs in the first semester, I'd say you can go ahead and take it anytime between January and May and you should be just fine.
