Hi, I have a question regarding Cell. Met. For questions on the MCAT, do we have to know
the cycles? What i mean is for things like the Krebs,Alcohol ferm.,E.T. chain, do we need to memorize the visual cycle or just the
end products. I hope the question is clear!
Thanks--S.

Anytime the MCAT references the Krebs cycle etc., they will give you a passage. The advantage to being familiar with these topics is that it'll take you less time to find the answer on the schematic than someone who's never seen it before. Don't waste your mental energy trying to memorize that stuff...your time is better spent working through passages & practice tests. Especially verbal. The only thing you really need to memorize for the test is physics formulas and maybe how to analyze some organic compounds (IR, NMR, etc.). Work through tests figuring out what is not only the right answer, but why the others are wrong (or process of elimination). This can really save your butt when you don't know the right answer, but know that several of them are wrong. Hope that helps!

I took the April 2000, and was paranoid about the amount of root memorization required for the biological section. In preperation I studied a good physiology book, and memorized the krebs cycle, including intermediates and chains...however, extreme preperations like these are not necessary, just know what are the major products, like CO2, H20, etc..excluding the carrier enzymes...and very important, know the locations of the respective cycles...this should suffice..
