I'll try to keep this short. I took the MCAT 4 days ago. I did the whole test without problem until the biological portion of the MCAT. The first problem was when I clicked the start button that brings me from the instructions page to the first Biological question it started me with 56 minutes!! I of course told the proctor immediately and he just had me continue it, he said he wouldn't be able to add time and I'd have to call at the end to see what would happen. I ended up guessing blindly on 5 questions and rushing through the whole thing and not reading another passage but just answering questions.
So I voided my test, right? NO!!! Why didn't you void your test? IT WASN'T AN OPTION. WTF?!?! At the end of the test the screen flashed white and loaded the desktop, no chance to void, no survey thing at the end, nothing. The thing that calmed me going into this was knowing that worst case scenario, if I didn't do well that day, was that I would just void my test and retake it. Turns out I was wrong. Worst case scenario is you don't get the time to do well, and then you don't even get the option to void your exam at the end, and don't know whether you are retaking it, getting scored on that test, going to have the option to void the test, etc. I basically walked out of the MCAT with more things to do then I walked into the MCAT with. Everything was reported by the proctor and I have sent in a letter as directed to have the AAMC investigate it.
From what I here from other people who have had computer difficulties is that the AAMC is pretty useless in doing anything to solve these problems. This scares me because I would have loved to at least have been able to void my exam after this problem. Is there any chance the AAMC will force me to take this score (I don't know what the score is, maybe it will be a good score, but probably not and definitely not as well as I could have done.) What are the possible outcomes of a situation like this? I was hoping to get some insight into what possible actions they might take because as of right now I'm planning on signing up for an MCAT july 6th and just paying for it myself while the AAMC sorts this out. Is this a wise idea? What are the possible outcomes of this situation?
