Hello all,
So, I first took the MCAT about a year ago, with only one semester of physics. I was taking the Kaplan course and took the Kaplan tests and a couple of AAMC tests. I think I took about 6 tests, and my average was probably a 31. I made a 29 on the actual test, 8 PS, 9 BS, 12 VR. I was disappointed, but I thought just needed to buckle down harder. Took it again in August 2008. This time I took all 10 AAMC tests, and my average was probably a 36, with a breakdown of 11 PS, 12 BS, and 13 VR. Then I took the real MCAT, and made the same score as the first time with a different breakdown: 8 PS, 10 BS, 11 VR 🙁. I was soooo disappointed.
So I'm scheduled to take it again on July 18th. I was wondering if anyone had similar experiences as I did? If so, how would you advise getting my real score to match my practice score? I will say that when I took the practice tests, I had a tendency to take them in the afternoon (instead of at 8:00, which was when my actual exam was) and sometimes I would pause the tests or take longer breaks. I didn't think these things would have such a big effect on my actual score, but if anyone else thinks they do, I would love to hear about it. Furthermore, I will have completed two semesters of physics by the time I take this July test.
Also: when i took the actual MCAT, I totally choked on physics and got so stressed about getting every problem right that I didn't take the time to answer the questions I could get right properly. Then, on VR, I spent about 20 minutes reworking physics problems, just because I was so stressed. Does anyone have similar test-anxiety problems and any idea of how to deal with it?
Finally: Since I have already done all the AAMC tests, I was thinking of doing PR tests this time around. Good strategy, or should I redo AAMC?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm so stressed thinking about this test . . . I don't think I can deal with such a difference between my average practice scores and my real score again . . . 🙁
