I currently have a MCAT score of a 23. I was planning on retaking it in the next month or so, but just got an interview from Des Moines which has an mcat average of a 27. Considering all the other DO schools I applied to, and the one I went to get into (26-27), should I still retake the MCAT?

Majority of my schools are in the 25-26 range... so i'm wondering if I should really retake or not

GPA was a 3.74
I am a premed..so i know as much as you do..
I will just tell you my opinion

But opinion wise...or...i dont know whether you feel the same..
But did nt you start the application because you thought~
no more MCAT?

But you may be thinking of retaking it because of it being 23..not 26-27..

I see no point...however retaking it if you got an interview...

I dont think you want to retake it...(100% my opinion)
For me it is the same...I dont want to either

But the thing is....with that mentality....(in my opinion)
you will not able to study hard....enough...
which means...you will only get better score if you get lucky.

Actually what i just said to you, i said to myself...;;lol

For me...I got a 6 on verbal....."RED Flag" they say..
but i know i wont be able to improve it within couple months...
So i simply applied...couple weeks ago...lol...
Unlike you i did not even get secondaries...

One thing i want to ask you.......have you really asked yourself?
I think you know more than me or a lot of people in this forum...

Even I know it is hard to improve verbal in short period...
Yet....it is, i think, relatively easy to improve your science scores..
may be at least 10+...

But i truely think you know all of these....
Choices are in your hands.

Oh...by th way...did you have a LOR from a physician?????

First of all congrats on the interview. However understand, that it is an interview and NOT an acceptance(aka Very close but still no cigar). Recently MCAT scores for osteopathic schools have been on the upswing, while you may hear of the occasional candidate who gets in with a 22 or 23, they are DEFINITELY not the norm. You need about a 25 to 27 to lock up at least 1 acceptance. So with that in mind, go to your interview, but still retake(just in case-always good to have backup plans). The great thing about the MCAT is that the 20's score range is different from the 30's score range. It is much easier to improve a score in the lower 20's and bring it up than a score in the lower 30's.(case in point: my friend got a 22 on his MCAT and retook the exam and scored a 28).

I had post bacc GPA of 3.8 and an MCAT of 24 did just fine.

What was the breakdown?

What year did you apply?

Reason I ask is I have almost the exact same stats as you and the OP. 3.74 GPA and 24Q MCAT.
