I'm so heartbroken. I've submitted my primaries to 18 schools. At this point in the cycle, everything seems really late. I know i can do better, but i've struck out twice already. Is there any point in retaking in august?

How are you scoring on the AAMC practice exams? If you can get consistent 32+'s on 3 or 4 consecutive practice tests then I say go for it take it again in August... if your secondaries are complete before your mcat score is released then you'll still be complete early to mid september which isn't too late in my opinion...

will schools even look at my third score? i only noted on my amcas application that my june 18th score was coming in.

If you're set on MD I would definitely retake, but not in August. Take the time to really prepare and take the test in January or in the spring. Unfortunately that does mean taking a year off but I think its better to do that than not take your time and get another mid-20s score.

what should i do though? i already submitted my primaries to 18 schools with letters of rec and everything. i don't think i can ask for letters of rec from the professors again, and i don't want to go through the hassle of rewriting my personal statement.

my ideal situation would be to retake the mcat in august and somehow have the schools i applied to wait for my third mcat (which i haven't talked about in my primaries). i'm not sure if that's even possible though.

i could apply to DO schools, but since i already applied to several MD schools, is it possible to simultaneously apply to the DO schools there as well? even after i've already applied to their MD programs?

wait a year and retake in january then reapply in june. would it count as reapplying though if i rescinded my application somehow midway through the process?

you can still apply to the DO schools.

you'll need to fill out a whole new application, send transcripts, send letters, but it will all be worth it if you get in, which you should.

I don't know much about DO schools. do most schools that offer MD programs offer DO programs too? or are those schools generally separate entities? should i go ahead with my low tier MD applications? or somehow rescind them to reply fresh somehow next year?

as i mentioned in the duplicate thread, your gpa is below average. keep your md applications out there and see what happens. the schools that have MD programs generally don't have DO programs, except for UMDNJ (new jersey), which has two MD schools and a DO (you still apply to each school separately though). many people apply to both MD and DO.

you'll have to cut your personal statement down from 5300 max characters to 4500 max characters. some schools require that you have a letter of rec. from a DO, but you can just avoid those schools.

I already submitted my primaries to MD schools, is there some way to rescind them so as to apply for "the first time" next year?

why did you post the same thread in the re-applicants forum if you're applying for the first time (and clearly don't want to be a re-applicant)?

as far as your question. sorry, i don't know.

having submitted primaries, is it too late for schools to take into account an august mcat score?

i couldn't find this information regarding MD schools. i didn't see it in last year's MSAR, but many of the DO schools accept MCAT scores from september (2010-CIB)

i figure some schools will accept an august mcat score, i'm just not sure how i could alert other schools to the fact that i'd be retaking them a third time.

you can log back into your amcas app and add another mcat post-submission.

i tried to do that, but the option to do so wasn't available. can you tell me more specifically how to do that? thanks

are you verified already? I'm not, just submitted ... and i went to the standardized test section on my app and the option to add another mcat is still there. its on the right side and says next mcat.

however, i have not done this myself because i still do not have the scores from my first mcat, but i remember on the amcas 2010 instruction booklet the mcat was one of the few things you can change post-submission. i would call amcas directly and ask.

oh i see it now. still though, if they let me change that, since schools would already be rearing up to look at my primaries, wouldn't they already decide by the time AMCAS decided to resubmit my application to them about my third retake? furthermore, would a third retake in august (my practice tests were way higher) even help me?
